My new addiction
Tiny Wings is an adorable iPhone game that is exactly the thing I needed to tear me away from freakin’ angry birds. No, not just because it’s about birds. Yes, because it is just as addicting. Is it okay to replace one addiction with another? I digress.I love that tag line, “You’ve always dreamed of flying,” precisely because the thing that keeps me coming back is the sensation you get when you find a rhythm hitting one dip after another. It’s like you really are flying. Let me explain…
Its the simplest of games. When you touch the screen that little guy tucks his tiny wings and plummets to the ground. When you let go, he flaps with all his might, but it just isn’t enough to keep him airborne. The trick is to get him to dive at just the right time to land in the downward slope so you can really get some speed and launch yourself into the clouds! Extra points for cloud touches of course.
It just feels so good to do. It’s the perfect mix of easy to learn and difficult to master; intuitive and challenging. The developers smartly give you some nifty little challenges to keep things fresh and rewarding too. The music is fun and empowering, the visuals are bright, colorful and change daily and the little bugger makes the cutest squawks when you do something right or wrong.
Tiny wings is a game that was made specifically to play into the iPhone’s strengths and it shows. It loads quickly when you get bored standing in line, it saves your progress automagically when you need to stop and the game never outstays its welcome. You are being chased by the night you see, so the game never lasts for more than a few minutes. Most importantly, it’s only a dollar and doesn’t need to be on wifi to purchase. No wonder its king of the paid apps. You can buy it no matter where you are. Like right now. Right. Now.
