The Walking Dead- 4 very different games made just for the living
There is still a long ways to go before the AMC’s The Walking Dead TV series graces us with its return in February 2013 and if you’re like us, that isn’t soon enough. Luckily for you however, there is plenty of ways to get your fix on all things zombie apocalypse and to get your hands full of gorey awesomeness that is killing the undead. Below are four games inspired by The Walking Dead franchise, including the TV Series and the comics. Keep in mind that 3 out of 4 of these games have already been released with the final game set to be released sometime in 2013.
1. AMC The Walking Dead Social Game
AMC The Walking Dead Social Game was released in early 2012 and is available to play to all Facebook users. The game is very much like other Facebook games where you have a small amount of Stamina and once that is depleted you can either buy more or stop playing the game. That said, if you are hardcore gamer, this is not the game for you. It’s meant for those people like us who don’t want to spend their Facebook play time in their barns feeding their chickens but still want to play games on Facebook and for those of us that like The Walking Dead. The game features characters from the AMC hit TV series and the comics. You have several customization options when creating your character and are able to further customize your character and your skills as you level up. You can even level up different weapon skills making you better at playing your favorite weapon. You level up by completing tasks for the people in your camp and by doing the main mission story line. The game also allows you to play scenes from the TV show such as the Atlanta Tank and the Prison Yard.
2. The Walking Dead: Assault
The Walking Dead: Assault is a new mobile game currently available to iPhone and iPad users. The game is based on the comics and features an array of playable characters. Choose from Rick, Glen, Andrea, Shane, Lori and others. Create a party of four characters and fight your way through the herds of zombies as you trek through familiar locations taken straight from the comic book series. This game will feature updates that include new episodes in the story that add more locations and more characters. The episodes will also add additional gameplay and additional upgrades for you and your party. Downloading this game will also grant you access to wallpapers and exclusive content. The game is $2.99 on iTunes.
3. The Walking Dead: The Game
Said to be one the Best Games of 2012, The Walking Dead: The Game is not to be taken lightly. The game has received critical acclaim with most critics agreeing that the game is simply spectacular. The Walking Dead: The Game begins as you play Lee Everett, a convicted murderer, being escorted to the Atlanta prison. Soon after, the zombie outbreak occurs and Lee is able to break free from his captor. He witnesses many atrocities due to zombie attacks but is able to make his way to a shelter where he meets a little girl by the name of Clementine. The game is about keeping her alive. Choices do matter and the choices you make will affect the output of the game. This means that everyone’s story will revolve around the main plot line but everyone will have a different journey getting there. The game was released as five mini episodes between April 2012 and November 2012 with the last episode being released on November 20, 2012. The Walking Dead: The Game is based on Robert Kirkman’s The Walking Dead comic book series. It is available on PC/MAC, XBOX, PS3 and iPhone/iPad.
4. Activision’s The Walking Dead: Survival Instinct
The Walking Dead: Survival Instinct is a First-Person shooter based on the TV series. It takes place prior to the events in Atlanta where our heroes from the TV show begin their adventure. The game’s protagonists are none other than Daryl and Merle Dixon. In this game, you become Daryl Dixon accompanied by his older, more racist brother Merle. The strategy of the game is mostly stealth. This is very unlike other FPS games where you run, point and shoot. Based on gameplay footage and notes posted on the game’s Facebook page, the game plays more like a survival horror game. Think Resident Evil with less puzzles and less bullets but with more missions that actually affect your character’s group and story line. Not everyone will survive. Although this game is not out as of yet, there are a lot of videos and images available to whet your appetite. The game is set to be released sometime in early 2013.
