Why do we continue to allow Zack Snyder to ruin beautiful things? After what he did with Sucker Punch, Zack Snyder shouldn’t be allowed to direct a movie. That movie, although visually stunning, was horrendously anti-character driven. I understand that he wrote it; maybe therein lies the problem, but I digress. We aren’t here to talk about the failures and shortfalls of Zack Snyder… unless we’re talking about Man of Steel. Which in this case we are.
Some people (rightly) claim Superman is boring because he is borderline omnipotent. But that’s only true because the people writing his stories don’t have any room to mess with anything that would upset the easily dismayed diehard fans. Superman is the epitome of virtuousness.
Sucker Punch did exactly that; It suckered me in and then punched me square in the jaw. Obviously that is not a good thing. Without giving too much of the plot away, I will say this. Sucker Punch played like a story within a story within a story. Wait… Didn’t we all see that movie last year? And didn’t we actually like it? And that movie didn’t need scantily-clad vixens without talent shooting monsters to prove it was a good movie… Just good ol’ Leo showing us all what Inception could do to our minds.
